Managing Metadata
Governments; ISPs
This guide will show you how to manage your metadata. You can specify what custom metadata fields you wish to have by adding and removing fields. Your metadata fields allow you to split, filter, and aggregate the custom metadata when viewing analytics, or make agents easier to reference in administration such as customer number. Common examples of such metadata includes exchange, DSLAM/CMTS, customer number, router firmware, and modem type.
How to manage your agent metadata
1. Go to the Management Suite on the top navigation of ConnecedHome, then select Agent Metadata.
2. To add a new field click the Add Metadata button.
3. For ID, please use the text that is identified in the field. The ID only contains letters and underscores (e.g. no numbers; no spaces). The name is how it will be displayed in ConnectedHome Filterable and splittable control whether or not it will show up in analytics as a split or filter.
The possible Types of Metadata are:
- ‘string’ which means text
- ‘int’ which means integer
- whole number
- ‘float’ which is a decimal number
Tip: After adding a new metadata field it can take up to 24 hours for it to show up in ConnectedHome Analytics due to caching for performance.
4. To edit a field, click Edit and you can see the same form as above. To delete a metadata field click Delete, then confirm it by clicking Delete again. Please note, this will not delete the metadata currently attached to agents from our data store but it will remove it as an available field to Set/View and from Analytics.
5. That's it! You have created your metadata field and it is ready to be populated.
Tip: To view more information about importing metadata, see 'Importing Metadata’.
